Silent mode / Focus mode issues

If WatchKeeper notifications are not getting your attention, Silent mode or Focus mode is often the reason. The schedule may be working correctly, but the iPhone can still reduce, delay, or hide alerts depending on how the device is configured.

Silent mode affects whether notification sounds are heard. A watch alarm may still appear on screen even if the phone does not make a sound. This can make it seem like the alarm failed when it was actually delivered quietly. If your crew depends on audio alerts, check that the phone is not silenced and that notification sounds are enabled for WatchKeeper.

Focus mode can also change how alerts behave. Depending on the Focus settings, WatchKeeper notifications may be muted, delivered silently, delayed, or hidden from the Lock Screen. This is especially important if the device uses Sleep, Do Not Disturb, or a custom Focus profile overnight, since those settings can overlap with watch changes.

If alerts seem inconsistent, review both the app and the phone settings. Make sure WatchKeeper has notification permission, then confirm whether Silent mode is on and whether an active Focus is suppressing alerts. It is best to test this before departure so the crew knows exactly what an alarm will look and sound like during the trip.

Common Signs of Silent or Focus Issues

  • The alarm appears on screen but makes no sound.
  • A notification arrives late or quietly.
  • Alerts show up in Notification Center but not as banners.
  • Nighttime alarms behave differently from daytime alarms.

What to Check

  • Silent mode is off if your crew expects sound.
  • WatchKeeper notifications are allowed.
  • Focus mode is not muting or hiding alerts.
  • Lock Screen and banner settings match your preference.
  • Notification behavior has been tested before departure.

A watch alarm is only useful if the crew notices it. Confirming Silent mode and Focus behavior ahead of time helps make WatchKeeper more dependable when it matters most.
